Description: From Classic Auctions: Cool purple and gold painted combination fiberglass and cage mask was worn by Mario Lessard at the end of his 10-year professional career which was highlighted by four outstanding seasons (’78-’82) in Los Angeles. Mario was the toast of the town, leading the NHL in wins in ’80-81, the same season he appeared in the NHL All-Star Game, played at the L.A. Forum. A big Kings’ crown logo appears at the top of the mask which includes all the original interior foam padding, along with a strip of terrycloth attached by velcro at the forehead. The straps and snaps are no longer present but no matter, it’ll display marvelously well. Our consignor informs us that it is a practice used mask while a photo from a minor league media guide to be included pictures Lessard wearing it while with the Kings’ New Haven Nighthawks farm team.
Thanks to an amazing collector, a photo match has been found of Lessard wearing this mask with the Kings on 10/12/1983 against the NY Islanders.
